The fashion designer Elsa Schiaparelli turned the fashion world on its head. A free spirit, a whimsical and irreverent woman, she enjoyed spending time with her Surrealist friends Salvador Dalí and Man Ray, and held nothing back. Elsa Schiaparelli was an avant-gardist, a bohemian socialite who engaged in numerous artistic collaborations, but also a shrewd businesswoman at the helm of an empire that has inspired generations of fashion designers, and continues to do so today. From the invention of the culottes to Marlene Dietrich’s wardrobe, via the famous “shocking pink” that became her trademark, the legacy of this extraordinary woman is immense.
