The Fondation Opale, only centre for Aboriginal art in Europe

Founded in 2018, the Fondation Opale is the only contemporary art center in Europe dedicated to promoting Australian Aboriginal art. Born from the passion of its founder, Bérengère Primat, the foundation is built upon an exceptional private collection of over 1,900 works by nearly 440 artists, forming one of the most important collections of contemporary Aboriginal art in the world.

Located in the heart of the Valais Alps, within the Lens/Crans-Montana Art Centre, Fondation Opale offers 1,200 m² of space dedicated to temporary exhibitions and cultural mediation. It hosts artistic and educational events, inviting the public to discover previously unseen works and engage in intercultural dialogue through creative workshops, thematic tours, lectures, and artist encounters.

The site includes a collection reserve, a media library focused on contemporary Aboriginal art, a 125-seat auditorium, and a seminar room, both available for rental, as well as a green terrace connecting the different parts of the building. Visitors can also enjoy the foundation’s restaurant, offering a convivial and gastronomic experience that complements the cultural visit.
