Discover the Bisse du Ro with 'Les bons plans de Chris'

22 August 2022

Chris is a passionate travel blogger who likes to share her favourite places and addresses, in a word, all her good ideas! This summer, she came to try the legendary Bisse du Ro hike for you, a path which links Crans-Montana to the Rawyl dam (also called Lake Tseuzier) in a most impressive setting. Read about her experience and adventures before it’s your turn to lace up your shoes and head off to do this magnificent walk. It’s also worth noting that thanks to the buses that connect Crans-Montana to Lake Tseuzier, you don't have to walk there and back, you can take public transport to get back (timetable). Are you ready? Christelle’s ready to share her advice with you!

Let's set off on a 'turnkey' excursion to discover the Bisse du Ro

Today I'm taking you on an incredible, sensational, dizzying and bucolic trip from Crans-Montana to the Tseuzier dam, to explore the famous Bisse du Ro. Are you ready?

The Bisse du Ro, an iconic bisse in Central Valais, is well-known for its path along the mountainside and its (famous) footbridge, linking Crans-Montana to Anzère. It’s about 5.5km long, and is an ideal walk to do in summer, to find some cool and enjoy spectacular views.

For me it was a first! We made the most of the turnkey excursion which is offered by PostBus and Crans-Montana, and which offers a round trip by public transport from the valley – a perfect day guaranteed 🙂

Let’s go!

The tour starts from Lake Grenon in Crans-Montana; to get there by public transport, take the funicular (Sierre-Montana) combined with the bus (note that the funicular is not operational in summer 2022), or take the bus (SMC company) directly from Sierre and get off at the "Montana, Pavillon" stop. Enjoy a coffee at Café Choucas (on the lake shore), before starting the walk along the bisse. From here, it takes about 3.5 hours to reach the Tseuzier dam.

On the way, marvel at incredible landscapes, at the sections under the rocks, the (magical!) nature surrounding you and so much more. Then, take the suspended footbridge (for a great adrenaline rush!)… perched 70m above the void, the footbridge is 120m long.

There is still 500m more to go to leave the Rière valley and enter the wilder Ertentse valley, where pastures and bucolic landscapes await you, before you continue on to reach the Tseuzier lake at last, located in the commune of Ayent.

Once there, enjoy the views... but that’s not all! Savour the delights at the Domaine de Revouire (tomme, serac and other cheeses, and more) (open all summer and weekends in autumn) before taking the 16.30 post bus (which runs from 25 June to 24 September 2022, check the timetable on the SBB app!) which will take you back to the valley floor.

A day of sport while exploring a variety of incredible landscapes…in a word, everything we love!
