31 July 2025

''You come for the views. You stay for the terrain.''

In Crans-Montana, every pedal stroke is a promise: a breathtaking panorama, a playful single track, a moment of pure freedom. Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced rider, the mountains offer a rich, varied, and thrilling playground to explore.

1. Choose the route that suits you

Here, there are as many mountain bikes as riding styles.

  • For your first ride: start with the Family Forest Loop, a gentle, fun circuit through the woods, perfect for building confidence. Feeling ready? Continue with the blue trail at the Bike Park, ideal for discovering the joy of bermed turns and small jumps. And if you want to push further, take the Flow Trail from Montana Village down to Sierre... then enjoy an effortless ride back up on the magical funicular.
  • For the experts: don’t miss the classic enduro descent from Plaine Morte. A thrilling drop from 3,000 to 700 meters, crossing lunar ridges, challenging sections, and the Tièche valley. This legendary descent has even hosted the Enduro World Series.
  • For panoramic long-distance lovers: head for the Alpages Bike or the Crans-Montana Bike Marathon. These routes take you through forests, permitted irrigation channels (bisses), and high-altitude hamlets. Smooth riding, stunning landscapes, and just the right amount of challenge.

2. Prepare well (without complicating things)

Whether you’re riding enduro or enjoying a family outing, a few good habits make all the difference:

  • Pick your route based on your skill level: Crans-Montana offers everything from easy family loops to technical enduro descents.
  • Always check your gear: brakes that bite, well-inflated tires, helmet properly fitted... better safe than sorry. Unsure? Stop by one of Crans-Montana’s many bike shops, they can inspect, adjust your setup, and if you forgot something, you can rent it on site. Nothing should hold you back from starting well equipped.
  • Don’t forget water and snacks: some routes are long, and altitude works up an appetite!
  • If you’re hesitant or want to improve, challenge yourself, or simply avoid getting lost, many local mountain bike schools offer lessons, guided tours, and even custom adventures. It’s the best way to discover the terrain, stress-free.

3. Anticipate the conditions

The mountains have their own rhythm. To ride in the best conditions:

  • Start early: morning light enhances the scenery, and trails are quieter.
  • Check the high-altitude weather forecast, especially if heading towards Plaine Morte or Aminona.
  • Adjust your route to your energy levels: everything here is flexible. If you’re tired, lifts or the Sierre funicular can bring you back effortlessly.

4. Enjoy the experience beyond the bike

What makes a ride truly successful isn’t just the trail, it’s everything around it.

Take time to:

  • Pause at Colombire and enjoy a coffee with a view.
  • Listen to the Tièche waterfalls.
  • Ride at your own pace, alone or with friends, with no need to race against the clock.

Crans-Montana it’s a generous playground where every trail has a story to tell.
