A graduate of the École Normale Supérieure and a doctor, Raphaël Gaillard, originally from Saxon in Valais, is a professor of psychiatry at Paris Cité University, in charge of the university hospital centre at Sainte Anne Hospital, which receives up to 12,000 patients each year. His work aims to model brain function using computer tools and brain imaging techniques.
He is the author of more than 120 scientific articles in international psychiatry journals and the books Un coup de hache dans la tête. Folie et créativité (Grasset, 2022) and L’homme augmenté. Futurs de nos cervaux (Grasset, 2024). He was elected to the Académie Française on 25 April 2024 to seat 16, left vacant by the death of President Valery Giscard d'Estaing.
