A brand new funicular

16 November 2022

Since 7 March 2022, a mammoth construction project has been underway on the 4.2 km long funicular line, with its 1,000 metres altitude difference, which runs through the Noble-Contrée district. The work has gone very well and is now in its final phase. It is due to reopen on 11 December 2022.

What can those using it expect ?

Increased frequency

Three connections per hour, with departures at xx.02, xx.22 and xx.42 from Sierre and Montana stations.

Extended hours

With the first journey at 06:22 and last arrival at 22:36, the funicular will offer 45 journeys every day.

New stops

Apart from the stations in Sierre and Montana, all funicular journeys will stop at Bluche on request. One connection per hour (the xx.22) will also stop at Venthône. The total travel time is therefore 13 or 14 minutes, depending on the journey.

More comfort

Less noise emission, more stable cars, improved access for people with reduced mobility, shelters at stops, a new disembarkation platform ... all these factors will greatly contribute to the comfort of passengers, as well as residents living close to the funicular.

A carbon neutral journey

Running entirely on electricity, with a new energy recovery and storage system, the funicular promises sustainable operations with zero carbon emissions.

A fast and convenient public transport link between the valley and the mountains is one of Crans-Montana's main assets. We salute and congratulate the SMC company for this investment, which improves their infrastructure and further facilitates access to our beautiful destination.

Shuttle service on the Haut-Plateau

And there’s even more good news about public transport, as the free shuttle service on the Haut-Plateau will be available all year round as soon as the service starts running again on 11 December. A service to the Moubra, Vermala, Aminona, Marigny, Plan-Mayens, Route du Golf etc. will therefore be provided free of charge all year round.
