All of the big festivals in the world have an identity that stems from their history. Thinking about the oldest of them all, the Venice Film Festival, which alongside the Cannes Festival, has always sought to celebrate the successive masters of cinematic art in every era, via the prestige of its awards and red carpet. And although Berlin, as it has evolved, has kept a more political vocation because it was founded in a divided, border city, the youngest of these big festivals, Toronto, has positioned itself as a great showcase for Hollywood productions and the film market in general.
But what then is Locarno’s identity ?
