Born in Massachusetts on 22 October 1982, Derek Wedge came to our region at the age of 4. Between hockey, freestyle ski, wakeboard and downhill mountain biking, he fell in love with extreme sports, and has shown he has a distinct aptitude. But which discipline to concentrate on ?Fate chose for him…he saw a leg of the Red Bull Crashed Ice onine, and enrolled for the qualifiers. Bingo ! He was accepted to compete in the Ingolstadt Crashed Ice in Germany at the end of 2010. This fast and technical sport does what he’s always looking for, it gets the adrenaline flowing. Derek was crowned World Champion in 2013. He is still one of the top in the world in the discipline.
August’s Ambassador - Derek Wedge
Born in the United States, Derek Wedge moved to Crans-Montana when he was very young, and has always been passionate about all kinds of sports. Among golf, wakeboarding, surf, skiing, ice hockey and cycling, Derek finally distinguished himself in Ice Cross Downhill, or "extreme downhill skating", an unusual ice skating discipline, but one of the most impressive and extreme. Created by Red Bull, the Crashed Ice competitions take place all over the world thanks to their gigantic infrastructures, and Derek won the world championship in 2013. Since then, he has been preparing for his Crashed Ice seasons in Crans-Montana, and organises camps alternating action sports on the snow, in the water, on land and even in the air - The X-Dream Camp
His latest invention? Roller skates, which he’s called Dusty Blades, with all-terrain wheels and brakes, which give the sensation of Crashed Ice on earth tracks, such as downhill cycling tracks. Like Derek, enjoy the multitude of sports on offer in our destination, its camps, training and its sublime setting to experience incredible sensations and exert yourself just as much in summer as in winter through the sports on offer.
