Tourism in all four seasons is a major challenge for mountain resorts. Crans-Montana is leading by example, as it promises to be an attractive destination all year round. While the summer and winter seasons are both traditionally lively, tourism providers are keen to extend the seasons and offer a wide range of activities, events, and services during the less busy periods too.
Since 2022, the free shuttle service on the Haut-Plateau has offered a year-round service, providing free transport to all four corners of the destination throughout the year. Of its 35 hotels, 9 are open year-round, and a further 10 offer their services for over 10 months of the year.
The events in the resort also help to extend the seasons, and wherever possible, they are strategically planned in the calendar to fill periods that are usually quieter. Of the 160 days of events per year, around 60% take place outside of school holiday periods.
A virtuous circle has therefore been established in Crans-Montana, with all tourism and economic stakeholders benefitting, which is quite significant in terms of social and economic sustainability.
